Western Australia’s tourism industry will receive a boost, with Tourism WA securing the Australian Track and Field Championships in 2022 and 2025.
Perth will host thousands of elite athletes and their supporters for the championships, delivering significant benefits to local businesses, tourism services and accommodation providers.
The championships will take place at the Western Australian Athletics Stadium in late March or early April in 2022 and 2025.
Australia’s champion athletes will be determined across more than 1,000 events, including short and long distance races and relays, long jump, triple jump, shotput, discus, hammer throw, pole vault, steeplechase and hurdles.
Tourism WA’s Acting Managing Director Derryn Belford said it was fantastic to secure the championships for Perth.
“Mass participation events such as this are important to WA’s tourism industry as they attract thousands of people to the State, including competitors, officials and supporters,” Ms Belford said.
“This provides a boost to the economy and helps support our hotels, local business and tourism services.
“We hope by attracting interstate visitors to WA for the championships, they will become advocates for WA and spread the word to their family and friends back home about our incredible city and State.”
The championships will be delivered by Athletics Australia and are supported by Tourism WA, Athletics West and VenuesWest.
