Avon Valley businesses are set to benefit from two high-profile hot air ballooning championships to be held in the region in 2021 and 2023 with support from Tourism WA.

The Australian National Ballooning Championships will be held between August 30 and September 4 2021, while the Women’s World Hot Air Ballooning Championships is scheduled for spring 2023.

The 2021 National Ballooning Championships includes the competitive ballooning championships and a ballooning festival featuring the spectacular Balloon Night Glow on August 28.

Acting Managing Director Derryn Belford encouraged people to take the opportunity to travel to the area and be part of the experience.

“This year’s ballooning championships and festival will create an amazing spectacle and is a fantastic reason to visit the Avon Valley region,” she said.

“When it was last held in Northam in 2017, the Night Glow event alone attracted more than 7,000 people and is expected to again be a popular part of the festival, which is great news for local businesses like accommodation providers, cafes and restaurants.”

The events are supported through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program and delivered by Northam Ballooning Events in partnership with the Shire of Northam.
