Regional communities and businesses around the State are set to benefit, with 62 events awarded funding through Tourism WA’s 2021-22 Regional Events Scheme, which is supported by Royalties for Regions.
Up to $1 million is shared through the annual funding round, which supports smaller and developing regional events. This funding includes $150,000 reserved for the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme for events that develop and promote the leadership of Aboriginal people.
The events will be held around the State from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.
Tourism WA’s Acting Managing Director Derryn Belford said it was fantastic to support a wide range of regional events across WA, which also highlighted the incredible tourism experiences regional destinations had to offer.
“Events play a key role in our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing more people to the region which means more tourism dollars for the community.
"They give people a reason to head out to a particular destination - where they will often find accommodation locally, spend at local businesses and explore the surrounding area.
“It’s great to see the scheme supporting 12 new events this year, including the Wadandi Surfing classic in the South West, which blends local Aboriginal culture and surfing, the Carnarvon Windfest in the Gascoyne and Pearl Coast Jazz Festival in the Kimberley.
"I encourage West Australians to wander out yonder and enjoy these regional events, while supporting regional businesses and communities."
