The way domestic visitor data is measured in Australia has changed. Find out more about Tourism Research Australia's new DoTS system in our dedicated hub.

Discover Australia’s North West

From the iconic Cable Beach to the World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park, Australia’s North West offers visitors a true wilderness experience. The far north region of WA is a popular destination for West Australians chasing warmth during the April to October months, known as the dry season.

During this period, thousands of visitors head north for the busy tourism period in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions when the rain ends and the area re-opens to visitors. Popular with interstate visitors and working holidaymakers, the main towns of Broome and Kununurra offer numerous flight connections.

Learn more about Australia’s North West’s tourism sector through our latest visitor statistics and insights, including fact sheets for key Local Government Areas and Regional Development Commissions.

Following TRA's change to the new DoTS system at the start of 2025 and the release of a full year of data for the regions, the dashboard now shows a regional breakdown for 2025.

Domestic and total spend cannot be reliably reported prior to 2025 and are therefore only shown for 2025. See the Tourism Research Australia website for more info on the methodology change.

The 2024 fact sheets are based on the National Visitor Survey and will be updated shortly with data from DoTS.
