The exceptional achievements of a range of tourism businesses were recognised at the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards on Saturday, November 13.
The award categories included the prestigious Sir David Brand Award for Tourism, which went to Kimberly-based helicopter business HeliSpirit for the company’s long-term contribution to the tourism industry and innovation, dedication and uniqueness.
The Sir David Brand Medal for Tourism was posthumously awarded to tourism industry leader and pilot Troy Thomas, who started award-winning Horizontal Falls Seaplane Adventures in 2006, for his outstanding contribution to the tourism industry.
Busselton Jetty, CinefestOZ Film Festival, Fremantle Prison and Go Cultural Aboriginal Tours & Experiences were inducted into the Hall of Fame, after each won gold in their respective categories for three years in a row.
Busselton Jetty took out gold in the Tourism WA sponsored Major Tourist Attractions category, followed by Fremantle Prison (silver) and WA Maritime Museum (bronze).
Core Cider House won gold in the Tourism WA sponsored Tourism Restaurants and Catering Services category, with The Crooked Carrot winning silver and Ten Acre Block receiving bronze.
Tourism WA Managing Director Carolyn Turnbull said the awards were a great opportunity to highlight the success and hard work of WA tourism businesses.
“It was fantastic to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of our tourism operators, particularly in the challenging time of the COVID pandemic,” she said.
“The Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards is a wonderful program acknowledging and celebrating the passion and commitment that goes into delivering a high-quality tourism product.”
