The South West region is set to welcome thousands of visitors, including some of the fittest and fastest athletes from around Australia as it hosts the 20th Busselton Festival of Triathlon next month.
Proudly supported by Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, the 2021 festival features the pinnacle attraction - the IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton triathlon.
The triathlon takes athletes on a challenging course which showcases some of Busselton’s most picturesque locations, including a 1.9-kilometre swim starting alongside the longest timber piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere - the Busselton Jetty - a 90.1 kilometre bike ride through tuart forest and a 21.1-kilometre run along the stunning foreshore.
It also features a kids' triathlon, a junior elite relay, fun team’s triathlon and a health and lifestyle expo.
Acting Managing Director of Tourism WA Derryn Belford said the event has been held in Busselton since 2002, delivering significant economic and social benefits to the community and the wider South West region.
“Supporting mass participation events such as the Busselton Festival of Triathlon helps boost the local economy by attracting visitors to the region, generating media coverage which provides valuable exposure to the destination, and adding vibrancy to the local community,” she said.
“In addition, they provide support for short-term accommodation, small businesses and other tourism services.
“They also give visitors a time-specific reason to wander out yonder and explore regional WA – which is incredibly important at the moment as the industry continues to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The 2021 Busselton Festival of Triathlon will take place on May 1-2, 2021. For more information on the event visit busseltonfestivaloftriathlon.com.au.
