Tourism WA has unveiled a supersized Sherrin football banner, hung at Perth’s Matagarup Bridge, as part of a range of activities to create excitement in the city around Perth’s first-ever AFL Grand Final match on September 25.

Footy fans stopping to snap a selfie at the site will be able to add special quokka AFL GIFs to their posts on Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, created by Tourism WA’s social media team especially for the occasion.

Tourism WA has also created a dedicated 2021 Toyota AFL Grand Final page on westernaustralia.com listing Perth CBD Grand Final activities, as well as hospitality businesses and venues showing the game and hosting celebrations.

Other activities to receive Tourism WA support include a special mural by Indigenous artist Kamsani Bin Salleh near Yagan Square, AFL Grand Final banners flying in the city, and the 2021 Toyota AFL Grand Final Premiership Cup tour to WA tourism destinations.

To keep Perth front of mind for future visitors during the hype of the event, a social media campaign will target South Australia, the Northern Territory, Tasmania and regional WA. Tourism WA has also hosted Abbey Holmes, in Perth to commentate the AFL Grand Final, who will create content to promote Perth’s attractions.

Tourism WA Acting Managing Director, Derryn Belford, said the historic event was an amazing opportunity for the State.

“These activities are all about creating an exciting atmosphere in our city that does this occasion justice, making it a boon for businesses and a memorable one for local and visiting footy fans,” she said.

Perth and Optus Stadium will be showcased nationally via television broadcast to AFL Grand Final viewers, who will see WA’s state-of-the-art stadium, nestled on the banks of the picturesque Swan River as well as PERTH signage on Optus Stadium’s surface.
