More than 20 operators in the East Kimberley are taking part in the Kimberley Wanderer Pass program, expected to help boost the region across its main tourism season.

Tourism WA Acting Managing Director Derryn Belford said the agency worked with Australia’s North West and operators in the region, to develop this program, giving eligible West Australians $300 towards any participating tour or experience, when they buy an airline ticket from Perth to Kununurra through Virgin Australia. The offer applies to new bookings made from today until September 30, 2021, unless sold out.

“This is a great extension of our Wander out Yonder campaign, encouraging locals to get to know the ancient landscapes that lie in their own backyard,” Derryn said.

“Our Wander out Yonder campaign has shifted focus from broadly encouraging people to travel within their state, to now targeting specific areas where we know tourism operators are still feeling the pinch from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“That includes the East Kimberley region that relies on visitors from other states and territories and visitors from overseas significantly more than tourism operators in other parts of WA,” she said.

Flights between Perth and Kununurra are available through Virgin Australian from $249 one way. Visitors will receive information about how they can access their pass within three days of making their booking.

A Kimberley Wanderer Pass is redeemable through the Kununurra Visitor Centre online, by phone or in person, and valid from now until September 30, 2021. Conditions apply.
