Dark sky tourism, agritourism, glamping and wildflower tourism have been revealed as new niche tourism markets with the potential to grow WA’s visitor numbers, according to a series of Tourism WA-funded consumer research reports.

The research was undertaken throughout 2021 with the resulting insights now available on Tourism WA’s corporate website through the Informing TWA’s Dark Sky Tourism Products and Strategy report, the Agritourism Market Segmentation report, the Consumer Research on Glamping in Western Australia report and the Exploring Opportunities for Wildflower Tourism in WA report.

Tourism Western Australia’s Managing Director Carolyn Turnbull said the research revealed exciting insights for the future of tourism in the State.

“This research presents a goldmine of opportunity for our industry. Here in WA, we are incredibly fortunate to have clear night skies, the largest collection of wildflowers on Earth, world-renowned fresh produce and spectacular natural landscapes – things that we know are high on the wish lists of travelers world-wide.

“This research will help us work with industry to develop new products that tap into the unmet demand that is out there for the unique tourism experiences only WA can offer.”

Insights from the four research reports were shared by Tourism WA earlier this year in a series of regional workshops for WA businesses interested in using tourism to generate additional income.
