Tourism WA is helping to inspire West Australians to return to Kalbarri, following the devastation of cyclone Seroja.
Australia’s Coral Coast has been granted $220,000 for marketing and visitor servicing, with radio, newspaper and digital advertising to start next week.
It follows a visit from Tourism WA representatives to Kalbarri in May to speak with tourism businesses about the status of their operations, and their needs.
Tourism WA Acting Managing Director Derryn Belford said the agency will be engaged in the community, to ensure the marketing will be fit for purpose.
“Cyclone Seroja has had a devastating impact on Kalbarri and the surrounding region. We know there are some tourism business owners who are eager to welcome visitors right now, and others who are still extremely busy trying to open their doors.
“This marketing for Kalbarri, through Australia’s Coral Coast, will be an informed and measured approach to support the facilities that are open for business, and support jobs in the community.
“We are also employing a project manager who will be based in Geraldton for 12 months, starting in July. This person will work with local operators, and Australia’s Coral Coast, as well as other state and local government agencies to support Kalbarri’s ongoing recovery from the cyclone,” Derryn said.
Information about the tourism businesses that are currently open in Kalbarri is available through the Australia’s Coral Coast website.
