The South West is expected to welcome more than 2,000 visitors to the region when the 2021 CinefestOZ Film Festival starts in August.

Running over five days, the annual festival will run from August 25 to 29 and promote the Australian and West Australian film industry.

The festival offers over 200 free and ticketed screen-related events in about 40 locations such as local wineries, galleries, cinemas and small bars.

This year marks the 14th year of the event, which also features a dedicated schools program and Indigenous film program.

Acting Managing Director Derryn Belford said hosting the film festival was good news for businesses in the South West region during the off peak season.

“This event shines a light on our magnificent South West and attracts visitors who can experience some of what makes this such a popular holiday destination, from the fresh local produce to the area’s natural and unique coastal beauty, there is so much to enjoy,” she said.

“This year’s event has the potential to boost the local economy by more than $2 million through visitor spend, and I encourage everyone who is travelling to the region to support local businesses like accommodation providers, restaurants and tours.”

The event has received State Government funding, through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program.
