Close to 90 people have completed Tourism WA’s Hospitality Job Connect program in the past month, with the final course for 2021 held in Mandurah last week.
The program gives job seekers the skills to excel in a hospitality role through workshops, industry certifications and TAFE accredited units.
Each course concluded with a session for participants to meet with employers. This was well supported with more than 50 hospitality businesses represented in Broome, Margaret River, Albany and Mandurah.
Tourism WA Managing Director Carolyn Turnbull said the Job Connect program has achieved excellent results and filled vacancies in hospitality venues.
“We know the labour shortage is a huge concern for tourism operators and hospitality businesses. We have been working closely with industry bodies to find tangible solutions,” Carolyn said.
“We’ve had fantastic feedback following each Job Connect, including in Albany where close to three quarters of participants at the course were offered multiple job interviews and work trials within days of the employer event.
“It was also great to work with school leavers in this recent series, with many young people eager to find summer work, and hospitality operators looking for trained staff for the busy holiday period,” she said.
Recent courses that have also been held as part of the Hospitality Job Connect series include the Margaret River Barista Job Connect and the Student Job Connect.
