Economic impact research commissioned by Tourism WA has revealed some standout results for the 2021 Ord Valley Muster, which is supported by Tourism WA through its Regional Events Program.
According to the research, the Kununurra event, which was held in May this year, was responsible for boosting the local economy by around $6 million.
Close to 2,300 people attended the Muster from outside the Kimberley region and stayed almost 24,000 nights in local accommodation over the nine-day festival.
Nearly 5,800 tickets were sold to the popular event, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.
The 2021 Ord Valley Muster has a focus on Indigenous performers and cultural experiences and featured Australian singing star, Jessica Mauboy.
Tourism WA Acting Managing Director Derryn Belford said the research demonstrated the important role Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program played in creating vibrant local communities and supporting jobs.
“These results show just how positive the flow-on effects of hosting a successful event like the Ord Valley Muster can be on the local tourism industry and economy,” she said.
“Congratulations to the event holders on their fantastic ticket sales and for creating an event that has been embraced by locals and visitors alike.”
